Synopsis: “White Gold”
“White Gold” follows the journey of an individual and their community as they navigate the challenges of modernity, communal values, and Buddhist teachings of moderation. The performance uses rice, often called Cambodia’s “white gold,” as a central symbol. Beginning with a heartfelt celebration of rice, the story unfolds as the protagonist accidentally destroys his father’s mandala and is cast out of his village. He finds himself in a world where rice turns into commerce and labor. As the community’s focus shifts to monetary gain, themes of competition, greed, and self-interest emerge. This thought-provoking story is brought to life through stunning acrobatics, dance, and live music.
